Pinnacle Construction and Directional Boring, Inc. is a Licensed and Bonded SC General Contractor specializing in underground utility construction and is based in Charleston SC. We have been in operation since 2001 with a focus on heavy utility focus since 2004. Erik Carlson, the president of the company and a US Navy veteran, is a licensed South Carolina General Contractor, with a Public Utility Electric Specialty. Erik has been in the utility service industry since 1998. The core management group of employees has been with Pinnacle since inception.
Pinnacle operates a fleet of Ditch Witch & Vermeer horizontal direction drills, from 9,000 to 40,000 lb. capacity, and regularly employs more than 30 people. Each crew is fully outfitted with electronic utility locating equipment, hydraulic reel trailers, mud spoils vacuum units and various sized mini-excavators or backhoes. We are a full service underground utility construction contractor specializing in Horizontal Directional Boring and Public Utility – Electric work. We proudly serve the water & sewer, electric & gas, communication & fiber optic industries.
Pinnacle is the primary Horizontal Directional Boring company for Dominion Energy, formerly South Carolina Electric and Gas, and is under contract for the entire Charleston Metro and Low Country districts. They also hold the contract with Berkeley Electric Cooperative for the entire Low Country area, as well. Additionally, we serve many of the local utility companies and local contractors in the electric, water, sewer and communications needs. We are an approved SCDOT boring contractor, a registered US Government Veteran Owned Small Business and CAGE approved contractor. Pinnacle is a member of the ASAC – American Sub-Contractors Association and the Carolina’s AGC – Association of General Contractors.
We make an ongoing effort to better serve the underground utility construction industry, our individual clients, our employees, and those companies that do business with us in the field. Pinnacle Construction & Directional Boring, Inc. has found that safety and damage prevention is core to our continued success. The safe operation around utilities and maintaining a safe workplace are crucial to a business’ long term success. Pinnacle is an active member of the both the SC Utilities Coordinating Committee and the Low Country Utilities Coordinating Committee. Erik Carlson currently serves as the chairman for the LUCC and as the Awards and Nominations Chairperson for the SCUCC.

We take responsibility for our actions. Foremen are being held responsible for the decision making that occurs in the field. If there is not a safe “window” to operate within, then we either hand dig the area to locate the obstruction or we adjust to create a larger margin of separation. The customer’s needs will always be a priority – so long as it is safe to do so.
